I am not a fan of pets although that is slowly changing thanks to the bunnies my brother got, but that’s an exception. No animal has given me PTSD like rats. Justine Musk once said “Fear is a powerful beast. But we can learn to ride it.”
What if that “fear” is a fat furry black rat (more like rats)? Now I know that sounds extreme, but you’ll find out why in my story.

Over a year ago, my hostel mates and I noticed a sudden invasion of rats in the hostel. It was a private one situated a bit further from the other hostels so we pretty much had only ourselves. There were perks to such life but a situation like this was definitely the downside.

The doctors had gone on strike and our lectures were on hold. The rat attacks seemed to be getting worse especially on the first floor where I stayed. It was the most inconvenient thing I’ve experienced in a facility.

The students decided that we would get a huge general bin for the weekends since that was when they had their “party” time. Thanks to an otherwise negligent management, we either did it ourselves or continue to suffer.

Those creatures didn’t even care. Plan all we wanted, they had a filled day escaping to the bush close by, and returning…
